The X-Ray
Stuff I added that no-one saw
This is a smattering of things I added to the X-ray of the Kindle edition of the book. If you long press on these terms, little descriptions come up. It took longer than I care to admit to write all of this out and I don’t believe most people even use that function, but uh, here we are. Enjoy a brief summary of the characters.
IDBEHOLDL - Code to access the lower level tram is also a cheat code from the game "Doom" that allows a temporary boost in light. I’m particularly proud of this, though I’m sure no one will notice it. Which is also why it’s at the top. Doom is great.
Addeleigh Simmons - 17 years old and works in the Religious Buildings. She cleans out suicide booths during the day and is frustrated by her lack of biomedical modifications.
Bruce - Addie’s Mute-Cat. Thought by many to be extinct, this tiny creature has been Addie's companion for years. The tiny animals have the ability to remove sound from a moderate radius around them. It is believed that the talent is tied to inverted phase sounds that essentially cancel out noise, but the effect is largely a mystery and so few exist that study is prohibitively difficult.
Jen - Addeleigh's best friend and a very wealthy daughter in Aberthene. Her father runs a large company that he is hoping Jen will eventually manage. She met Addie in church as a young child and continues to have dinner with Addie on occasion to keep up.
Kel - a cop that has grown tired and frustrated with the force. His initial enthusiasm tempered by the weight of bureaucracy and a lack of consequential assignments. He is divorced and wears it poorly. He finds Addie once she has jumped from the building and does his best to help.
Shane - the leader of a group of scrap thieves. They steal bio-mods from morgues and either use them or sell them as their way of life. He's reckless and 19 years old.
Zelana Tormande - clever and beautiful and has a penchant for explosive devices. She acts as an integral member on Shane's team and is very close to Shane.
Cam - The youngest member on Shane's team at 12 years old, Cam is a computer whiz with a penchant for clever hacks and a generalized fear of the opposite sex. He's treated like a little brother by Shane and his intellect is an integral part of the thievery that marks their way of life.
Jesse - the dumb, but pretty, muscular guy in Shane's crew. What he lacks in intellect he makes up for with a sharp jaw line. He is outspoken, always hungry, and absolutely LOVES guns.
Traves - an old friend of Kel's and has a background in surgery. He tags along in the journey to Miss Firra's place with Kel and Addie to help discover what is happening to her.
Tristan Bantham - the leader of The Holy Order and head of Tritan Biomod. He is the wealthiest man on Aberthene and very popular among the poor for his innovations in bringing biomedical enhancement technology to the masses.
Aberthene - a city/world. The whole planet is said to be one large, expansive metropolis. The wealth disparity is large and the people are all bound under the rule of the largest church: The Holy Order.
Wrath - Fairy tale character who lost a great many friends and family during an attack on his home. He trains a young girl to fight who was the sole survivor.
Mute - character from Jesse's story and general folklore. She is said to still be hunting God
Reds - the private police force of the Holy Order. Their authority is now much greater than that of the traditional police force that Kel is a part of, governed by the state and paid by tax dollars.
Yerta - Offworld planet where most universal law is deliberated and created. This is the place that most high level trials would occur.
